Play for Dignity Programme
Play for Dignity is an intergenerational sports initiative that leverages football and traditional games to address social exclusion, youth poverty, and the neglect of elderly caregivers in rural Kenya. The project targets underprivileged children and adolescents (ages 10–18) being raised by elderly grandparents, many of whom are living with age-related disabilities and poverty.
Through weekly inclusive football sessions, life-skills clinics, and community engagement festivals, the project creates a safe and empowering space for young people to grow in confidence, leadership, and resilience. Elderly caregivers participate as team mentors, storytellers, and coaches, fostering intergenerational learning and dignity.
The initiative directly engages 300 youth and indirectly impacts 1,200+ community members through awareness, capacity-building, and school retention support. Using sport as a tool for development, the project addresses pressing social challenges such as poverty, isolation, limited education access, and community disconnection.
